This survey has concluded
The Council is installing a new street lighting management system in Castle Hill Village this month to allow the light levels of around 70 streetlights to be adjusted remotely by Council.
This system will allow remote setting of when the lights are on and how bright they are, with the flexibility to adjust this at any time.
Following installation, we will be trialling this systemthat can reduce maintenance and power costs. We want to hear from you around how the streetlighting levels should be controlled for this trial.
Why?
The Council agreed toprovide the necessary upgrades to the existing streetlights at Castle Hillin the Long-Term Plan 2024-2034 process. This decision was based on submissionsfrom Castle Hill and Arthur’s Pass community members.
When?
The upgrades to the existing streetlights havebeen installed by Connetics Ltdduring May with hardware and software supplied by Felicity Smart Infrastructure. The technology can also monitor power use and faults in real time, allowing more efficient use and better maintenance of the LED street lighting, also reducingelectricity use and power costs.
This system is similar toothers already in place in other parts of the country and will allowthe Council to remotely control and change the brightness of the lights. An AI sensor will also be trialled to automatically reduce or increase lighting levels depending on how streets are being used.
How can we be involved?
We want to discuss further with you about how the new system should be used. Please fill out the survey below to help decide how and when the lighting should be adjusted. This is a trial and we will continue to work with you to best align the village’s needs.
