We’re reviewing our policy on how we manage buildings that are considered dangerous, affected, or insanitary.
This policy outlines the steps Council takes when a building has the potential to cause serious harm to people, or damage to nearby property.
A dangerous building could also cause neighbouring buildings to be classified as 'Affected'.
We’re required by law to have this policy, and to review it regularly to make sure it continues to protect people where there is a serious risk.
The draft policy includes the following updates:
A simplified structure, including a flowchart, to make the process easier to understand when a building is identified as dangerous, affected or insanitary.
Minor amendments based on feedback from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and our internal review.
Tell us what you think
We’d love your feedback on our draft policy. Does it cover what it needs to, or are there changes you think we should make?
To make your submission, read the Statement of Proposal and our draft Dangerous, Affected and Insanitary Buildings Policy in the key documents section, then fill out the short survey below.
Consultation closes 5pm Friday 23 May.
