Consultation has concluded
This consultation has closed.
The Council will consider the research results in April 2021, and these will help inform its initial proposal for consultation.
Every six years the Council reviews its electoral arrangements. The representation review looks at factors such as the number of wards, ward boundaries, the number of councillors, the basis of election (at large, wards, or a mix), and establishment of community boards.
Selwyn District Council last undertook a review in 2015 and we are now undertaking a new review, in preparation for the next local body elections in 2022.
One of the elements the Council must consider is “communities of interest”. This is about identifying the distinctive interests of a community, and how ward boundaries and electoral arrangements reflect those interests and respond to the needs of the community.
We now want to hear from residents, to help us gain an understanding of how Selwyn people think about their “communities of interest” and their views about the electoral system.
Your feedback will help us gain an understanding of how people think about their local communities and how they relate to the way we elect our local councillors and elected members.
The Council will consider the research results in April 2021, and these will help inform its initial proposal for consultation.
Any Selwyn resident can participate in this research bycompleting the online survey. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw for a $100 shopping voucher.
The survey is being run independently by research company Research First Ltd.
