Consultation has concluded

This consultation took place between 26 October and 10 November 2020.

What did you tell us?

Our website received a total of 631 visits. 351 participants actively interacted with the site through the online survey or accessing other information, and 280 completed the survey or a quick poll, or shared an idea for how the Council could improve on the wellbeings.

Some key points of interest include:

  • A high proportion of respondents saw retaining Selwyn’s “distinct rural character” as a very important over the next 10 years
  • Out of seven core council activities, “Maintaining drinking water quality”, “Providing green spaces” and “Providing and maintaining safe local roads” were rated as very important by the highest proportion of respondents
  • Asked about whether the Council should spend more, less or about the same on key areas of activity, for all except two listed areas (safe intersections and cycleways), majority of respondents selected ‘the same’.

What happens now?

This early community feedback is helping our Council to identify priorities and key projects for the draft Long-term Plan 2021-2031, which we expect will be going out for formal public consultation in April 2021.

We want to get direction from Selwyn ratepayers about what they think is important for Selwyn, where we should spend our funds and how it should be paid for. This is part of the Council’s early engagement on the Long-Term Plan 2021-2031 - Council’s budget and work programme which gets reviewed every three years.

Before we present the Long-Term Plan 2021-2031 for formal consultation next year, we want to hear from you:

  • what should be our priorities,
  • whether we should be spending more, the same or less on what we do,
  • and most importantly, if you want us to spend more, how it should be paid for.
