Consultation has concluded
Biodiversity describes everything living on land, in fresh water, the sea, and encapsulates the diversity of all flora and fauna. We have a large endemic biodiversity in Aotearoa New Zealand of flora and fauna species native to this land, this is our indigenous biodiversity. Within the motu, we also have a unique biodiversity here in Waikirikiri Selwyn.
How do we protect, restore and grow that distinctive and precious biodiversity?
That's the aim of this strategy. It sets out goals to achieve that, actions we need to take, and the priorities for doing that.
There are significant opportunities and challenges ahead for the management of indigenous biodiversity within Waikirikiri Selwyn, including the protection of significant habitats, halting further loss of endangered species, the enhancement of waterways and wetlands, and the protection and restoration of a range of healthy ecosystems stretching from the mountains to the sea.
We want to hear from you about this plan, the actions and the goals, and whether we've got the priorities right to achieve a strategic approach of first protecting what remains and then restoring what has been lost.
