Community committee survey
Consultation has concluded
This survey is for community committee members only.
Selwyn District Council is undertaking a review of the current model of community committees, and as part of this process we are seeking the input of committee members across the district.
The existing model of community committees was fit for purpose at the time these committees were established, and has served communities well over past decades. However, as our district and our communities change it is timely to review how, in the future, committees can best serve and support their local communities and the people who live in them.
Throughout this review we want to ensure the benefits that committees can deliver for their communities are retained, and that volunteerism in the community is retained and enhanced.
The Local Government (Community Wellbeing) Amendment Act has given councils a strong focus on promoting social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing. This makes it timely for the Council to review the community committee structure and role, and consider whether such a structure might assist its community engagement on social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing matters in the future.
The review will also allow the Council to consider whether the current structure and model helps to inform the Council’s knowledge of local needs and service impacts, including those services delivered or funded by central government, and whether a changed structure might contribute more effectively to achieving community wellbeing. Reviewing what we do is something all councils should do regularly to ensure good practice. Many other councils have been carrying out reviews of committee structures and we have not done one for some time, so this is a good time to do this review.
This survey is an opportunity for you as a committee member to provide your thoughts, ideas and observations about how we might best work together to support our communities in the future.
