Why is Selwyn District Council seeking feedback online?

Traditional public consultation usually involves attending public meetings or providing written submissions to Council, and this can often be time consuming and inconvenient. Your Say Selwyn gives you the opportunity to have your say on issues and opportunities that are important to you, at a time and place of your choice.

It is a quick, safe and convenient way to have your say on a range of issues and topics.

It is a great way to keep up to date and contribute your views on issues affecting your community.

You can see what other community members think about an issue or topic, respond with your own views and engage in a discussion.

It allows for a range of different people, with different views to discuss matters that impact on their community.

How can I have my say online?

Your feedback can be submitted via the online forums, quick polls and surveys relevant to each of the projects currently open for consultation.

If you have not previously participated simply click on the "Register" button at the top right hand side of the page and when prompted create a screen name of your choice. (Note: your comments will appear under your screen name and you can comment anonymously through a screen name of your choice). Create a password of your choice, a valid email address, your age, gender and the location in which you live.

If you have previously participated simply click on the "Sign In" function located on the right hand side of the top tool bar.

What happens to my feedback/comments?

All comments, ideas and suggestions are collated and used to inform the development of strategies, programmes and activities, or to gain an insight into community views and opinions.

Often feedback provided online is used in conjunction with other face-to-face consultation activities such as drop-in sessions.
All feedback provided during consultation will be considered, however this does not mean that every suggestion can be taken on board and adopted as proposed.

Why do I need to register?

By registering to Your Say Selwyn you are able to access the full features of our site including our interactive discussion forums and surveys.

Registration also helps to minimise the chance of the debate being manipulated by someone leaving multiple comments supporting their own position. Finally, it means that we can keep you up to date about important changes to a consultation process, for example, if the submission date is extended.

Is my privacy protected?

Your privacy is totally protected because the Your Say Selwyn engagement hub is hosted and moderated by an external independent organisation, Bang the Table.

No third parties have access to or will be provided with your details. For further information, refer to the Privacy Policy.

We only have access to your details to inform you of up and coming consultations that you have selected as areas of interest.

In the matter of posting on a discussion board only your username will be listed next to the comment.

How are the online forum and other public comments moderated?

All moderation is carried out by Bang the Table and all moderation is independent to Council. The moderators do not edit or alter any comments and will only remove comments deemed to be significantly off topic, offensive or malicious, in which case they are removed from the site immediately.
