Darfield and Kirwee Wastewater – initial community feedback

The Council is looking at the potential development of a reticulated wastewater system for Darfield and Kirwee.

We want the community's feedback on whether it should happen or not. If the project goes ahead, it will replace privately-managed, on-site wastewater treatment and disposal systems. The construction of this is not expected to begin until 2028–2033.

Public feedback begins on Monday 10 June and closes on Friday 12 July 2019.

When could the wastewater system be built?

In the 30-year infrastructure strategy 2018–2048, we signalled our commitment to consult the community on the possible establishment of a reticulated wastewater system in Darfield and Kirwee. Whether this proposal goes ahead or not will depend on the need for it. We will base this need on the community’s feedback and then form a business case.

We would like your feedback on:

• any health concerns that you may have with your onsite treatment systems

• any performance and maintenance issues

• future consenting and legislation restrictions which may affect you

• any perceived intensification, commercial growth and business restrictions

• the stigma of large non-reticulated community

• the affordability of any potential wastewater upgrades

• any other positive or negative feedback.

We have completed some early investigations into the issues faced with wastewater collection, treatment and disposal for Darfield and Kirwee along with potential servicing options. This information can also be found at the top right corner of this page under 'feedback form and more information'.

How can you give feedback?

Use the enclosed envelope to send back the hardcopy feedback form, or drop it into the Darfield Library and Service Centre.
