Name a ward
Our wards are changing. This is your chance to help us get the right names for the new wards. Use this tool to share your ideas for what the new wards should be called, view other people's ideas and add likes to ideas you like.
The existing wards have names that they were given in 1989. Since then, the ward boundaries and the people living here have changed. In this review we have new wards to reflect our changing district. It's time to give them new names that fit our district today and into the future.

Ward names should consider
- Geographical Context
Consider the geographical area that the ward will cover. The name should reflect the locality,
landmarks, or significant features within the ward boundaries. Use the common or predominant place or feature name - Historical context or cultural significance associated with the area
- Community Identity
The ward name should resonate with the community’s identity and value - Descriptive names
Choose a name that describes the essence of the ward.
Ward names should also be easily pronounced, spelt and understood and only use characters from the alphabet and any relevant macrons.
Ward names should not
- Be the same as somewhere else in the country
- Include hyphens, numbers
- Include qualifying terms like Upper, North, South
- Be disrespectful or offensive
