Leeston's new community centre

The Council is planning a new community facility for Leeston and we want your ideas on how it could be best utilised.

Feedback closes at 5pm on Monday 6 May.

To provide a modern, purpose-built facility for Leeston residents, we first need your views on what activities you see yourselves doing and to better understand the needs and aspirations of the wider community. For instance, what uses does it need to cater for? Where should the facility be located?

This just the first phase of this long-term project where we're gauging what kinds of needs a new facility would need to cater for.

Background

The Leeston community has previously indicated its need for a community facility that caters to a range of recreation and community activities.

An initial feasibility study carried out in 2015 determined that, while there are a number of existing facilities, most of these are considered to no longer meet the requirements of the community as they are dated, undersized, or in an unsuitable location.

The Council’s Long-Term Plan 2018-2028 (LTP) process confirmed that a modern fit-for-purpose community facility was required to meet the growing needs of the Leeston community. This led to Council adding this project to the LTP.
