Decreased visibility due to works signage

Due to ongoing bridge repairs on the Rakaia gorge bridge there is a trailer mounted digital display with the bridge open/closed hours displayed on SH77 at the corner of Leaches road. Due to the poor positioning of the trailer too close to the intersection drivers heading west on leaches road and at the stop sign cannot see cars coming from the south. So far I have seen two near misses where the vehicle heading north and turning into Leaches road can't see the vehicle obscured by the sign and cuts across the corner.

Despite being made aware of the problem Transit NZ have chosen not to have it moved.

Driving safer

OneI am a bus driver for a living and the thinks we see when driving is insane, one of the problems in darfield i have is parents dropping kids of out side the high school, where it says 'NO STOPPING between 8.30-9am and 3-3.30pm and they are still stopping there and one of our drivers nearly took a door off as the kid got out on the road side of the car.TwoCars not slowing when the bus is picking up in mornings or dropping off in afternoon's, the worst for this are skier's, perents and some students.

Concern for school children crossing our roads

Darfield High School students are the students I have seen that give me the greatest concern. I have seen some near misses outside of Darfield High as students cross over the roads directly outsde of the school and also as they are crossing over the main road outside of the Trinity Church. I was parked over the road one day from the High School to collect my own daughter, a year seven and she stepped to soon onto the road in front of a driver just having pulled out. Hi Excelsior20, thank you for your very detailed story! When you say you saw two near misses, where were you at the time? Were you heading south on SH77? Did seeing these near misses cause you take any action? You indicated that you alerted Transit NZ: did you do anything else, like change the route you take, or change the way you drive?
